Serenity Counseling & Resource Center, Inc. provides Emotional Support Animal Service (determination letters) with a specific focus to document reliable clinical information with integrity and ethical principles. We understand an emotional support animal—also called a therapy or comfort animal—is recognized legally as a “reasonable accommodation” for a person with a disability (physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more major life activities). We understand that an emotional support animal provides therapeutic benefits to its owner and may have a justifiable reason for its presence in housing and/or air travel settings. A licensed clinician will conduct a clinical interview and administer screening tools assessing six functioning domains to evaluate the legitimacy of a disability (mental impairment) and the necessity for an emotional support animal.

A request for and decision on a determination letter is evaluated on a case-by-case basis. We provide Emotional Support Animal Service (determination letters) only to individuals residing and being assessed in North Carolina.
